Mariehamn’s Own Real Estate Company
The real estate company Marstad has approximately 600 rental apartments and is wholly owned by the City of Mariehamn. Marstad is also the majority owner and manager of its subsidiary Dalnäs, which has just over 100 rental apartments. We offer everything from small apartments for single households to homes for larger families, and our residential buildings are located in every district of Mariehamn. There are also student apartments where you can either rent a full unit with a kitchenette or rent a room with shared kitchen and bathroom facilities. We also have four accessibility-adapted apartments equipped with, among other things, wheelchair-friendly bathrooms and height-adjustable kitchen counters.
Our goal is to offer affordable and secure housing of a normal standard, with good quality and service.
The apartments are located both in traditional larger residential buildings and in smaller houses/semi-detached houses that contain only a few units. Our ambition is for our tenants to reflect society at large, and for people—regardless of age or life situation—to have the opportunity to create a comfortable and pleasant home in our properties.
The owner’s governance of the company is defined in the ownership directive. The owner appoints a board of directors, which has overall responsibility for Marstad.

We Develop Housing Together
For us, the opinions of our tenants are important. We carry out regular surveys to learn how our residents perceive us and what they would like us to prioritise going forward — all to help us plan improvements and changes that make a real difference. We also organise open meet-ups in the courtyards where we offer refreshments and where you can meet Marstad’s staff in a relaxed environment. Whenever you need to reach us, we are close at hand — by phone, email, or through a personal visit to our office.

Collaboration for Social Sustainability
In 2023, Marstad began a collaboration with Save the Children Åland, Folkhälsan on Åland, and the Åland District of the Red Cross to help create a more inclusive society where people can thrive and grow. Together, we organise joint activities and projects, and we sponsor initiatives aimed at different target groups of all ages.
Through information and projects, we aim to improve our tenants’ opportunities to feel well in their living environment and to strengthen the accessibility of existing organisations for them.

Climate and Environmental Work
We take responsibility for our environmental impact by choosing environmentally certified products whenever possible. We continuously review the energy consumption in our properties and are gradually introducing charging stations for electric vehicles. We are developing our green areas and run projects that promote biodiversity. Marstad is environmentally certified according to ISO 14001.
